Lunch with Friends.....

Hi everyone!  good friends are hard to come by.  My mom has a good friend, Donna.  They have so much in common.  and it's fun to watch them interact.  Lots of laughing going on.

Well, Donna has been very good to me and my Mom.  She is a sweetie for sure.  Mom and I have talked about taking Donna out to lunch to thank her for all she has done.  We also talked about maybe giving her a quilt.  I thought of a few that she might like.  such a hard decision.  Donna is a girly girl.  So I wanted something pinkish, and girly and sweet.

I had decided on one quilt top I have.  but it just didn't seem right.  Then when I finished the  pinwheel quilt, yep, that was it!!!

She was so excited and sooooo happy!  I know, not really pink, but the background looks pink!  And she loved it.

Doesn't it make you feel good when  your quilt goes to a happy home!

hugs......

Show and Tell

Hi everyone, My friend Mary Lou came over the other day.  Our ward divided and we never see each other any more.  Was so happy when she called.  Well, Mary Lou is a quilter too.  and has lots of grands.

she always makes a quilt when someone gets baptized.  she has two granddaughters who are turning 8.  Marylou wanted to share what she had made.

First up Do the Hustle  I have made this quilt several times.  I love it and its so easy!  A no stress quilt.

Next up is candy hearts quilt  On this one, Mary Lou used a double bat.  AND she hand quilted around each heart.  See the color around the quilt between the hearts and the white border?  she used her scraps and did a little piping.  sooooo cute!  I know Claire and Chloe will love their quilts.

Thanks Mary Lou for coming over.  I miss our visits.  And I love your quilts.

hugs.....

Dinner at Macayo's

Again, I have so many pictures. so I am just going to share some. I have been working on this quilt since last summer. I will do another post so you can see the quilt better. it's a picture of Mom and Dad in the center. it has star blocks surrounding it. the center of the stars are family pictures. they were soooo surprised. Mom never let the quilt out of her hands. she held it all the way home. I think they both liked it. Now, since Mom and Dad eloped, they never cake a cake. so we had them do all sorts of firsts. BTW, the cake was from Cake - Nothing bundt cake. click on the blue link to go to there site. we had carrot cake and red velvet cake and all I can say is YUMMO!!!! so good. and the wonderful thing is they have a place in Scottsdale here! Yeah! I can have more......

Now the next two pictures should be reversed. My wonderful, lovely children felt that their grandparents needed some toys to celebrate this wonderful occasion. Lee was the one to present the basket. the basket was full. My parents were so excited to get a present! You can see their reaction when they realized what it was. I was going to share pictures, but, well, there was a lot of edible things. and edible tassel things, and edible underwear type of things. you get the picture. well, kiddos, you made them laugh!

I bet you didn't know there was a Macayo's in Vegas! My parents LOVE Mexican food. yummy!!! AND I bet you didn't know that Macayo's is celebrating 50 years! so the restaurant was decorated with 50 years signs and balloons. we thought at first they had decorated for Mom and Dad celebration! Thank you Macayo's!

I love being a girl!

today was a wonderful day - I got a pedicure and manicure. ahhhhhhhhhh, so very nice. having that done, makes me feel pampered and beautiful! happy, happy...... I would love to do that once a week - at least. LOL! My friend Vicki and I didn't get to get together this summer. that makes me sad. we always get so much done when we have our retreats. so this year we decided that we would pick a day and pick 2 projects and sew. the thing is, we have about 6 projects to do. the first 2 projects we picked was a red and black quilt. Abundance is the pattern. Vicki provided the 10" red squares. I provided the black, red ric rak, and border. the other is a Patrick lose haunted house/birthday table runner. Now the deal is, we have to finish these 2 projects as in finish the top, quilt and bind it. well, I have the abundance top done. I LOVE IT!!!!

Here is a close up of the flower and ric rak. isn't just darn cute?
and here is the top! Yeah!!! Vicki, isn't it wonderful? just the way I envisioned it! now, what color of thread do I use? how shall I quilt it? what should I get for a backing? I want it finished yesterday. I really, really love this quilt.

thank you Vicki for going with my zany ideas!
hugs......

My Aunt Joan has come to visit. She came from all the way from the other side of the USA! Maine! She is such fun to be around - like my other Aunt and my Mom.
they all have a great sense of humor. Well, I felt that she deserved a quilt because she is here. She was so excited and happy to receive it. I gave it to her as we were loading up the car to go up to Pinetop. That's were my parents and my Aunt Gloria are right now. they are smart and go up there to get away from the heat down here. So I was the lucky one to take her up. I got to stay for a few days too. more on that later. We are so happy you came Aunt Joan! hope you enjoy your stay.....

enjoy,

Another Cutting Marathon!

Today was Thornberries, a smaller group this time. Several people were out of town. We definitely were better organized this time. AND we really got a lot of cutting done! Yeah!!!
Terry P. was our master sorter again. she really had a plan! there were lots of little piles of different sizes. mainly we were cutting for 2 plaid quilts. not sure if we are going to cut again next month. but we are getting better at getting those scraps under control. I finished 2 UFO's this time! This one is a blue snowflake quilt. lap size.
Last one is my Beatitudes quilt. It is done, finished, ready to hang on the wall! I will try and get a better picture so you can see how pickin' cute the blocks are.

Our food today was light but very good. Judy did a Chinese chicken salad, Louise a chicken noodle salad. Terry P made one of my favs - Pear salad! yum. Terry S. made apricot bread and a apricot coffee cake. she served both with her apricot jam. yummo! I made a watermelon salad. I got this recipe from Kelly Rae! Thank you Kelly Rae it is soooooo refreshing. here's the recipe:
1 personal seedless watermelon, cut into little squares like 1/2" (this salad is pretty too)
1 English cucumber, peeled, sliced in half and scoop out all the seed stuff and chopped like the watermelon.
the juice of 2 limes
fresh ground pepper.
mix all together. serve. you don't won't to make it the night before, it will start getting mushy. there will not be any leftovers! it's cool and refreshing.....
enjoy....

Sacramento Crew!

Elena sent me pictures yesterday. Apparently, our little Maddy woke up quietly and found the diaper rash cream. she then painted her bedroom and herself! she does look a little pale. but still such a cutie! I am pretty sure her daddy did the same thing! Here is our GW all bundled up in his little bear outfit! His daddy's nickname was bear!
I don't know if you remember, but GW was born with a head of hair. almost looked like a wig on the little guy. Well, he is 5 months old now, and just starting to loose a little bit of hair in the back. Mom and Dad decided he needed his first haircut! So, GW now has a buzz just like Daddy!

Thanks Elena for sending such great pics! we love them and appreciate you doing this for us.
I have been sick with whatever has been going around. YUCK! so I haven't done much sewing. just sleeping, watching a lot of TV, reading and a little bit of handwork. enough to finish all the blocks of my be attitudes quilt. Yeah!!! so the blocks are together and I just need to finish the borders. I am thinking that this quilt be one of the next quilts that go to Joann! It will be so nice to hang it in my family room.

Thornberries and Another Finish!!!!

Friday was thornberries! I love going and seeing what everyone is up to, how everything is going, show and tell! love it all. we always have lunch and you know, we are really good cooks! here is Barb working on those pesky little 9 patches. they are so cute, but pesky! LOL! Sue and Bobbi joined the civil war group at 3 dudes and here is sue working on her blocks. they were soooo pretty!
Terry has a new little grandson coming and here is the beginning of his quilt. soooo cute!

here is the group working on all their stuff.....

and here is my finished (it was almost finished at TB - but now it is finished!) civil was quilt. I started this several years ago at the Koop when they had a $5 BOM. each month you would bring your block back. if you didn't bring your block back, it would cost you another $5. I think this quilt cost about $15 to $20! LOL! but it is now finished and I really like it. I don't have very much civil was fabric in my stash. I do have 2 finished civil war quilts. I think it might be growing on me. this make s #8 UFO finish for this year! this sure feels good.....
enjoy...

More UFO's finished

this feels so good to finish! if I ever get completely caught up, I will NEVER have this many to do again! or rather, that's my plan! this quilt was from a mystery - burger queen - have it your way quilt. you could pick any block. the only thing was you had to make the blocks in sizes 3", 6", 9', and 12". I really like how it turned out. I do love stars. and I love red and cream quilts. this quilt is about 2 years old I think. OK, this one probably looks familar. I finished the sister quilt last month. a couple of years ago I bought a lot of this fabric when it went on sale - enough for these two quilts and more. I started them and got sidetracked. so now #1 AND #2 are finished. I still had enough fabric to make another top. not an UFO but I have used alot of that fabric. I am hoping after I peice the back it will be back! we will see.....
so this is #6 and 7 UFO's for this year! go me!!!!

Also in this last pic you can see the stage. On the stage there are LOTS of quilts! these are all charity quilts. there had to be over 100 quilts. how awesome is that? Way to go Lost Dutchman gals!!

We played CLR for a few games then on to Texas hold em! I watched for a few games of poker then asked to join in. I then won 4 straight games, split the pot once with my dad, then won a couple more! I won almost $6 off of them! the guys were not very happy with me. I bowed out.....

Here is our little Eva with her quilt.....
well, I need to make one more quilt for Alex - next year sweetie! and then one for David and Glen and then EVERYONE will have a quilt! until the next baby is born - whenever that will be. It was sooo nice having everyone over for Christmas. I love my family. Each of you bring so much joy into my life!
