Lots of kits to sew!

Hi everyone!  I have shared my idea on scraps.  I like to cut them up for someday.  I have always loved scrap quilts.  And that seems where my interests and time have been on.

I haven't been a very good girl in organizing my scraps in the past.  it really seemed over whelming to do anything.  When I needed something, I would scrounge around my boxes.  I was good at checking the scraps before going to my stash.

Then along came Bonnie Hunter and her scrap system.  it was like a light bulb turned on.  Her quilts are amazing.  good snuggle and read a book quilts.  or I don't feel good and I need comfort quilts.  Or put it on the bed and look beautiful and snuggly quilts.

It took a couple of years to define what I really needed in scraps.  what good does it do to cut up scraps if you are cutting sizes that you don't use!  hard lesson.

So last summer I bit the bullet and bought a go cutter.  before I bought any dies, I tried to evalutate what sizes I needed the most.  I didn't want to buy willie nillie.  I wanted this to work.

So I bought 2 1/2" strips, 2", 2 1/2", 3 1/2", 4 1/2" and 5" squares.  And both sizes of the tumbler dies.  I really want the bow tie and little basket dies.  I am saving for those.  I don't seem to use the strip die as much as the squares.  I use those squares A LOT!

I am still learning about my scrap system.  But I can tell, it is so much easier using my go cutter than using my mat and rotary cutter.  much easier on my hands.

There are several quilts I want to make, a quilt that Vicki and want to make.  All scrappy types.

So the other day  I started making notes of what I needed.  LOTS of 3.5" squares, lots of 2.5 squares.  So I went to my scrap drawers and started counting.  I didn't have to cut one of those squares.  Oh my gosh.  they were all ready for me.  I did have to cut some unbleached muslin for one of the quilts.  It took minutes to cut those 3 1/2" squares.  life is so good, you know......

The first box is for a pinwheel quilt that Vicki and I are making.  I still need to cut the setting triangles and alternate squares from the muslin.  but I am in no hurry.  The middle  shoe box is for the Trail Mix quilt.  this is just one part of it.  what's in there is just for one of the blocks.  The last box.  Sigh....... I had it all organized and I dropped the box.  It is for  the twinkler quilt.

Now these boxes will be sit by my machine and will be leaders and enders.  no rush on them.  just free quilts.  that is a good thing.

off to sew.....

Loot Party!

my Hubby business is convenience stores.  so lots of venders come his way.  Recently kormark has avendor show in Vegas.  We couldn't go, but the 3 people in his office went.  Once of them was our son in law, Glen.  And he took his darling wife (our daughter) Melissa.  The rule was #1 bring back stuff that I can send to our missionary Jordyn and #2 bring back stuff for the loot party for the grands.  other than that have fun and enjoy!

Well, between the 3 employees, (Glen works for us), they won a ipod, a 42 " TV, a blue ray player, a coffee machine, and something like a fitbit.  Maybe I need to change the rules!  LOL......

Not everyone got in the picture.  they were too quick for me.  Even Hudson was able to get stuff this time.  But he didn't have the patience to wait for it, as you can see, he is enjoying his loot immediately.

The kids really enjoy get stuff.  and we enjoy watching them  pick.  It is really quite fun.

Happy Mother's Day!

Hi everyone!  I hope all you mother's out there had a special day.  We had a very quiet day.  Our church doesn't start till 3PM.  so we don't get home till after 6.  Our kids have church in the morning.  so there wasn't any convientient time for us to get together.

So we decided to get together to have dessert!  which is always a good thing.

I didn't get to spend mother's day with my mom.  they have already gone up the mountain to the cool.

so Mom Carnes and I decided on Lemon Pie and coconut Cream.  we were happy.....

I received flowers from my sweet hubby, and my AZ kids!  Melissa gave me some liquid chalk markers that I have been wanting forever and chalk labels.

I talked to my daughter in CA and son in ID.  so all was good.

Happy day.....

Hi Everyone!  recently some friends came over to sew.  Mardi, Toni, Cyndi and Vicky.  This is another Vicky.  a friend of Cyndi's.  Welcome, welcome!
Toni wasn't able to come to lunch with us the other day to celebrate Cyndi's birthday.  So she brought a little surprise for Cyndi this day!  yeah!!!

A special box!

Filled with all kinds of goodies!

A very sweet homemade card that was absolutely beautiful!

There was lots more stuff but we were so excited to see everything, I forgot to take pictures!

here is the completed top Cyndi made for a new baby.

this is Mardi's new project. I know she got the pattern at Paducah, and she is using leftover civl war fabric.  It is beautiful!!!!

Last summer while Mardi and Cyndi were out of town, I got the harebrain idea to make this quilt.  So Toni and I pooled our Halloween fabric.  and cut kits for everyone.  We cut 6 kits.  We both still have LOTS of Halloween fabric left.  Well, Charlene, Toni, and Mardi have finished theirs.  the above picture is Mardi's.  I love the piping she added.

Cyndi made these charms for each of us.  Aren't they the cutest thing?  Can you guess what QG stands for?  Quilt Girl of course.  Thank you Cyndi!  you are a sweetie!

This is Vicky.  She is working on a project that the blocks are 30" squares.  Oh my gosh, that is big.  the is the center  for one of those blocks.

Here is her first block.  the colors are so rich.  I can't wait to see the whole thing someday.

Well, before you ask, I sewed, didn't finish anything, just plugged along.  It was a very nice day.  I always enjoy when we get together and sew.  These ladies are the best!

Still working on home for the holidays.  I have 3 blocks left.  all are partially done, so I am almost there!

I have finished the binding a JOHN WAYNE quilt.  by that I mean BIG!!!!  LOL.....

this baby is BIG!  107" x 107"  I figured I used 18 1/4 yards of fabric!  Moma Mia!!!! this is my mother's summer project from last summer.  When I would go up to the cool mountain where they summer, we would sit on the patio, sew, talk, laugh, iron, sew, eat, watch the hummers, talk to neighbors and sew some more!  What a wonderful way to spend the week.  I did not quilt this one.  it was too darn big.  This all came from my drawer of 3 1/2" squares.  I don't think we cut anything.  mom gave it to my SIL for her birthday.  I hope Barbi loves it as much as I do.  Mom you did a great job!!!

3 White Dresses

Sometime ago, there was a conference talk about 3 white dresses a girl/woman will wear.  I will have to research it to see who talked about it first.  Anyway, the first white dress is when a baby is blessed and given a name.  2nd white dress is at age 8, when we are baptized.  and the 3rd is at our wedding.

Well our Zoe girl has turned 8 and will be baptized soon.  in our once a month evening Relief Society meeting this month, was our Mother/ Daughter themed meeting.  The theme this year was 3 White dresses.  they had several wedding dresses displayed.  some baptism dresses. and several  blessing dresses.  One was 122 years old!  it was beautiful.  I am so sorry I didn't get any pictures.

Zoe came with Grandma Carnes and I.  it was a fun night.

Zoe made this picture of the Mesa Temple with a poem on vellum on the top.  she was so proud of herself.  I accidently deleted the picture.  So for the record, She had a big smile on her face.

We had sundaes for dessert.  Yummy!  It was a very nice night.  Thank you Zoe for coming with us.  Love you Zoe girl!

Miss Teen Acton, CA reign is over.....

Hi everyone,  recently my daughter Jenn, my son Lee, Zoe and Lexi and I made a quick dash to CA to support Julia, my granddaughter in giving up her crown.  Her reign is over.  I can't believe a year went by so fast!

AND Jenn was one of the judges to pick the new queen.

here we are, Road Trip!  Happy, happy, happy....

Here is Julia, and her Dad Michael.  her last walk as Miss Teen Acton.  kind of a bittersweet moment.

The poor girl had 4 changes, 3 of which were formal wear.  They kept the queens hoping.

Jenn said the judging was a very unique experience.   I think the judges did very well.  it was a tough  call.

Jenn the judge, and Julia former queen.

this is on Pear Blossom Highway.  See that white on the mountain?  that's snow!  My goodness, it's May!  Now I know that some people live where there is lots of snow.  I know many of you are still dealing with a bit of snow.  but please remember, I am a desert rat.  this snow stuff is unique for me.

This is at Palm Springs.  More snow!  wow!!!

We stopped for lunch and our Lexi was a hungry girl.

Don't you love Lexi's shoes?   She has her Grandma Hudson to thank for that.

by Quartsite, we stopped at Love's Travel stop.  do you see these shoes, oh my gosh!  Love them.   so I had to get them.

It was a wonderful, fast, fun trip!  Loved every minute of it.

hugs......
