Spiderwebs!

Hi everyone!  I am in the middle of quilting a Halloween quilt.  this is a scrappy, spur of the moment type of quilt.

On one of our get togethers, Vicki and I were working on Halloween quilts.  somewhere we saw a quilt, thought - We can do this!!!  so it was made with what we had on hand.

It's been hanging in the closet for a few years.  All I had to do was machine applique the ghosts and the haunted house.  Done!

Now it is on the frame.  I am using lime green thread and a spider web panto.  I am loving this!

so here is the first row:

If you click on the picture, you can even see the cat hair!  Mr Diesel jumped up there before I could catch him....

A New Missionary!

Hi Everyone!  In our church, Young men (age 18) and young women (age 19) can go mission for 2 years.  Our grandson, Jordyn has decided to serve a mission.

Two weeks ago, we went to CA for his farewell.  I know he was so nervous.  I completely understand.  Jordyn did so well.  And he looked so handsome in his suit.

After church, we all congregated back at the Zeman home.  Lots of family, good food, lots of laughter and a few tears.

Here is Bruce, Jordyn and I.  Jordyn is our 3rd grandchild.  And we are so very proud of him.

I made a pillowcase for him.  It has the letters CTR all over it.  that stands for choose the right.  I got the idea from fredas hive  - thank you!!!  She sent me to  Spoonflower

Do you remember this quilt?  it was from the Ho, Ho, Ho blog hop.  I had several finished quilts and I was trying to decide which one to give Jordyn.  He is going to Washington, Spokane mission.  NE Washington, part of ID and Montana and a little bit of Canada.  Anyway, this one seemed the one for him.  He will be doing a lot of walking, riding a bike, and more walking.  soooooo.....

Today, this young man goes into the mission home in Provo, UT.  My prayers and thoughts are with him.   And with my daughter and her family.  I know it is an emotionally exciting, hard, happy, sad, adventurous day for them all.

Love this young man!

I see the light!

Hi everyone!  I have had this light attached to my sewing machine for 4 years, I think!  I LOVE it!!!

This Bendable Bright Lights has really worked hard for me.  It plugs in - not battery operated.  It produces a really bright light. I can sew at night without any problems. I can move it to different machines, easily.   And it has died......  It runs for about $40 if I am remembering right,  so that means it cost $10 a year.  Not too bad.

Well, when you are use to having this wonderful light and it's gone, well,  it's not fun to sew when you can't see.

I had to make a run to Mulqueens to pick up some so fine to quilt my next quilt.   they had these new lights - SewLite I have been wanting to check out.  About the same price and soooooooo much smaller.

Do you see how small these are?  the small one is about 1/4" square!  Yikes!!!  the other about 1/4" x 1/2".  My goodness.

Here the all lights are off.

This is just the sewing machine light.

All the lights are on.

here you can see where I put the little, itty bitty lights.  My goodness.  I think I am going to like them.

I can see only one draw back.  how do I put this on another machine?  The other light had an adapter.  This one doesn't.  sigh.....  I will have to think about this.

I do like the brightness, and will try sewing this evening to see how it goes.  No affiliation, just a customer!

Our trip to CA

Hi everyone!  recently we made a quick trip over to CA for a special occasion.  More on that later.....

All of my children except 1 and his family were together.  Yeah!  that just doesn't happen very often.

But on the way there we stopped at Monica's Quilts and beads shop in Palm Springs area.

I managed to find just a couple of things.....  LOL...  I was a good girl.

Then on to Trina's home.....

here we are with most of the grands.  Poor Demi's face is partially cut off.  everyone was taking lots of pictures and they were getting tired of it all.  We had a fantastic time.  Thank you Zeman family for hosting.  Love you all.....

A Treadling I will go!

A while back I shared that my daughter gave me a Singer treadle machine.  I have always wanted a Singer treadle.  I just love the way they look.  I love the quiet sound they make.  This one is a 15 - 80.

I met Gary on Treadleon.  He is a local guy, who loves to restore treadle machines.  He worked a bit on my Wheeler Wilson and came over the other day to work on this new one.  Well, it is new compared to the Wheeler Wilson!

this new machine was made in 1949, in Scotland!  I would love to know the story on how it traveled to CA, then to AZ.  That machine has traveled more than I!

It needed a new bobbin case and bobbins.  He didn't need to replace the belt.  He tightened, adjusted and played.  And now it works!  thank you Gary!!!!

So if you need some treadling advice, work, etc, please give Gary an email!  Restoration Antique Sewing Machine Cabinets

Just a very happy treadler recommendation!

The shepherd needed the binding and the eyes on the shepherd and sheep.  And yes, the kitties - Miss Priss and Diesel.  I couldn't keep them off.

Next is the 2nd Winter Wonderland.  That is Miss Priss again.  I think she fell in love with the minkee back!  Have you used Minkee on the back of your quilt?  Oh my, I will so do this again!  I love the way it feels.  It is much heavier than normal.  it does have batting in it too.  It is sooooo warm.  it will feel so nice this winter.  but right now?  in 110 degrees?  hmmmmm, no.  However, we were traveling with the air conditioner turned way down, and it did feel good.

This is the front.

So, I busted 12 1/2 yards.  not too bad.  I am now in the 100 yard busted club now.  And that makes me a happy girl!

Yummy, Yummy Hamburgers!

Hi everyone!  A month or so ago, Toni said she heard on the news about hamburgers made with Krispy Kreme doughnuts.  Someone in CA was serving hamburgers with doughnuts at the bun.  Hmmmmmmm...... really?

fast forward a couple of weeks.  I am watching US of Bacon  Yep there really is a show dedicated to bacon!  LOL.....

anyway, I am watching the show and they start talking about a restaurant in Atlanta, GA.  they serve a hamburger with donuts as the  bun.  What? for real?

It is based on a hamburger that Luther Van Dross loved.   Now I was glued to the TV.  I wanted to see what this hamburger looked like.

It looked YUMMY!  So I took notes.  Talked to Toni, and we decided to experiment.

So she cooked the hamburgers.  she added sharp cheddar cheese slices.  She also grilled the donuts.  I don't think they were grilled on the show.  but I think it added another layer of flavor.

I had cooked some bacon, and caramelized some onions.

And here you go!  It was definitely restaurant quality.  It sure isn't something I would serve frequently.  It's high in calories.  But let me assure you, IT'S PICKIN GOOD!!!!  I mean REALLY good!

It has the sweet and salty thing going on.

So here is our take of a Luther burger.

Ingredients:

hamburger, Toni used lean, she made the patties

doughnuts, we used Krispy Kreme

4 onions, sliced and caramelized

bacon, 2 slices per hamburger - cooked

cheese,  we used sharp cheddar

BBQ sauce, it is served on the side - we used famous Dave's

there you go!  if you try it, let me know.  I promise, you will like it!  Yum!

Our next adventure? homemade really good salsa and cookies made like Oreganos!  chocolate chip cookies cooked in a miniature iron skillet.
