Quilt Appraisals

At the shop last week, Karen Housner was doing quilt appraisals. This quilt my great great grandmother made. it was one of her utility quilts. she did bias binding, which did not happen very often back then she said. Karen felt she used fabrics from dresses or shirts because one of the fabrics was very faded. she also used white quilting thread to applique the flowers down. My great great grandmother was very poor and probably didn't have the money to buy the black floss. Thanks Karen!

Zoe Day

Zoe and I haven't had a day for awhile. she called me up and wanted to come over. so Lee dropped her off and we played. I suggested a movie and Zoe wanted to see Toy Story 3. hmmmmm..... did I just see that? LOL.... so off we went to superstition mall theater. yum, kettle corn. I bought a tub of popcorn so that I could take home some to Grandpa. there wasn't any left! Zoe LOVES popcorn! then to McD's. I can't believe I forgot my camera! after Zoe had her wonderful yummy lunch and played we went to Ruffler's Roost. I had to buy some ribbon. while there Zoe saw all the wonderful bows, so we picked one for her. she was wearing it when Lee came to pick her up. She is such a happy girl with her Daddy. Thank you Zoe for such a fun day! don't let Grandma forget her camera again!

Road to Shambala..........

Jen and David will be moving soon and Saturday they had to sign the paperwork. Our Lexi girl didn't want to do that, so she and I had Lexi day! yeah!!! do you remember the song - here the road to shambala by 3 dog night? well, I feel it is my moral obligation to teach my grandchildren about good music - namely from the 70's! LOL..... so during our time together I will pick a song and we listen to it a lot. and we sing along. they have fun with their silly grandma. this time it was road to Shambala. we listened to it probably a couple a dozen times. we were both rocking to the music! LOL.....

anyway, cupcakes are so popular now. and there is a cupcake place by where Lexi leaves. Cupcake Cafe. we decided to go there. it was a very cute shop. the cupcakes where - OK. we bought 3 for $6.50. Mint chocolate, German chocolate and red velvet. they were pretty, but just OK.

Next we went to the movies to see Toy Story 3. Lexi had never seen it. how did that happen? so off we went to the $3 movie theater in Tempe. Lexi wanted her picture with Elvis! we had a great time!
Thanks Lexi for a fun afternoon! love you sweetie.....

Thornberries Day

I love TB day. I sure I have said that before. but I do! love the show and tell, love the swaps we do, love the talent of these fun ladies!

anyway, it was at my home this time - dust and boxes every where and all! lol..... I made this last year and finally sewed the sleeve on the back while everyone was here. at least it is on the wall! This is the 2nd Halloween decoration I have out. the only 2! this table runner was one of the things Vicki sent down to me. it's a Patrick Lose pattern. love it!
This is Sue's patriotic quilt. she did a swap of 5" charms that were red, white, and blue. didn't it turn out great?

This quilt is Sue's also. this was a quilt that Sue did while in Nimble Thimbles. I even did one of the blocks. I have had this pattern - it's from a fons and porter magazine, several years ago....
I really am going to have to make this. it is soooooo pretty.....
This is my quilt. another Christmas one! this is leftovers. I still had lots of this fabric leftover from 2 other quilts I had made with this fabric. all that's left is just little bits of scraps. whew.....

This is a close up of Sue's little itty bitty 9 patch quilt that some of the gals are swapping. Sue has been sewing hers together all along. it gives me a tiny twinge of regret that I didn't do this.

Now, since it was at my home and it's Halloween and I LOVE Halloween!!! I asked everyone to bring there scariest food. we had blended body parts - coleslaw! spiders with eyes - chocolate covered Chinese noodles. LOL
mummy dogs.....

and eyeball soup! eyeball soup is homemade tomato soup. the eyeballs are mozzarella, with a slice of green olives with pimento. I couldn't find any mozzarella balls, so I just bought a large ball of mozzarella, sliced it about 1/4" thick. then took a small round cutter (mine was about 1 1/2" wide) and cut circles. I just laid the green olive slice on top. I put all the eyeballs on a plate and let each person place an eyeball in there soup. I think it looked pretty cool. the mozzarella melts and gets misshaped, but still looks pretty good. it made everyone laugh.....

Thanks ladies for a fun day!

A Trip down to Tucson

hi everyone! I was lucky enough to go with friends down to Tucson to the quilt and sewing festival last week. it is soooooo much smaller than ours in January at the state fair grounds. we still had fun and I did find a couple of things. I really was a good girl!
here is a quilt that I really liked. it reminded me of field of flowers pattern that I love. similar but different.

we went to some quilt stores too. quilt market -very fun and now I can't remember the other store. darn - they had lots of civil war, 30's and lots of fun quilts on the wall.
they had a little couch where Cyndi, Mardi and I sat for a photo.

we had lunch at Beyond Bread - Yum! kind of like Wildflower but even better! YUM, YUM!
Thanks Cyndi for driving! it was a great day.....
