A Learning Day....

Hi everyone,  the other day I spent with some friends.  One of them has a long arm, and she is growing daily in her quilting.  It truly is amazing.  she has only been doing this for around a year.  She practices all the time and her quilting is..... beautiful! 

My other friend is new to machine quilting and then there is me, a scaredy cat.  I have had my HQ16 for about 4 years, and just now trying to do ruler work and free motion.  So silly I know. 

Well, Charlene - the very talented one - helped Toni and I.  We need lots of help!  we tried feathers....  don't you love feathers?  We had our white boards and our dry erase markers, and we drew and drew and drew.  We need LOTS of practice.  it was fun.  Thank you Charlene, you are a sweetie for helping us.  We spent the afternoon drawing away.

Charlene brought a quilt to bind.  Now several years ago, Charlene and I  were in a swap together.  the pattern was from Edyta Star.  we each made just the thread part of the blocks.  Each of us chose a color to make and I had blue.  Charlene's is finished, and mine?  well...  not finished!

In the morning, Toni and I worked on Christmas Favorites by Nancy Halverson.  We both have lots of her fabric.  And we both have fabric. I have a lot of previous lines, and Toni has lots from the line used in this book.  so we are mixing them up! 

 
Here is the first block.  Now we can do all the sewing part.  hand buttonhole stitch or machine buttonhole stitch?  black or matching thread?  Oh the choices!  So a new start for us.  Hopefully we can keep each other on track.  And by the end of the year, a new Christmas quilt!

Cars are fun!

Well our construction still hasn't started. we are still waiting for the home owners. so that means my sewing room is a sauna. sigh.... anyway, we are hoping to hear this week. anyway, I go into my sewing room real early in the morning to try out my HQ16. I have been doing just about a row a day before I get pretty miserable. I have had this panel of a car map for awhile. I finally found a panto that I wanted to use on it - Cars by Dave Hudson. I bought it at Patterman . it really was quite easy. much easier than I thought. I only made 2 mistakes. I went over the same area twice. at least I was consistent. here is the panto here is a close up of the good part! look at those stitches! aren't they perfect? I am so happy! I can't wait to load my next quilt.

Here is the whole quilt. I didn't even take time to trim it up for the picture, I was soooo excited. I wish I would have bought more panels. but Grandma is keeping this one for the boys to play with, when they come over. I might try to find more. it was fun to quilt. Thank you Caroline!!! another UFO finished! and I think the boys will like playing with it.

oh yeah! life is good!

no pictures today, but some really great fun news!!! if you know me, you know I love to quilt! I am becoming friends with my HQ16. I have been practising and playing. I haven't broke any needles yet - which is a good thing! LOL... one of my favorite places to look at pantos is HERE Urban Elementz. this site has such a good selection of pantos and also the design boards AND digital if you have that blessing! ****** update the panto is listed here click on the link and it will take you right to it! Yeah!!!!

they also have an area where you can submit ideas! I have played with the idea of writing happy birthday while quilting. well it just doesn't look very well, so I thought a panto would be wonderful to have. I have never seen one. so I submitted the idea! guess what? I just got an email from Patricia that she liked my idea and had made a panto that they are printing right now! because it was my idea, I get the panto for free! how cool is that?

A New Toy!

I love to quilt! it is my passion. the only thing(s) I love more is my husband and my family. I love seeing my kids and grands sleeping or snuggling under one of the quilts I made. I love it when my grandson Justin asks for another quilt because his is too short for his long legs. I love the process of picking out the fabric, cutting it out, sewing it together and making list of what I have accomplished. I am not a very good machine quilter and I have blamed it on the limitations of the set up I have now. A original HQ with a Juki machine. I soon lost interest in machine quilting because of how limited I was. That's my excuse!

Anyway, on one of the lists I frequent, someone offered their HQ16 with a table for free. Only thing was they had to come and take it down and take it away. I was lucky enough to be the first to respond. So I made plans with this generous woman and on Saturday, my husband, my son, my son in law and grandson all came with me to pick up my new toy.

Thank you guys for for taking apart this baby so carefully. and to the wonderful lady who is so very generous, thank you from the bottom of my heart! I am humbled to have been given this treasure. It might be a week or two before I get it set up. but right now I am reading everything I can so I will be ready to play!!
